In an engaging and delicious Italian class, Year 1 and Year 4 students embarked on a culinary adventure to make pizza, learning valuable lessons about patience and the rich flavours that define Italian cuisine.
The session began with an introduction to the traditional Italian pizza-making process. Students gathered the ingredients, mixing flour, water, yeast, olive oil and salt to create the perfect dough. As they kneaded the mixture, they learned the importance of patience, waiting for the dough to rise is a crucial step in achieving the ideal texture and flavour.
The next day the dough had risen and students topped their pizzas with a variety of fresh ingredients, exploring classic flavours such as tangy tomato sauce (la passata), cheese (la mozzarella), and fragrant basil (basilico). This hands-on experience allowed them to appreciate one of the most iconic Italian dishes, la Pizza Margherita.
Through this activity, the students not only developed their cooking skills but also gained a deeper understanding of the significance of patience in both cooking and everyday life. As they enjoyed their homemade pizzas, they celebrated the fruits of their labour and the joy of learning through experience.
Thank you to Ms Sternberg and Ms Cassaniti for sharing their knowledge and organising this treat.
