A Global Symphony

Experience the world through music at IGS.

On Monday 4 November IGS proudly hosted the annual Music Gala, titled Music From Around The World. One of the final major performances of the School year, this concert showcased the exceptional talents of IGS musicians from Years 3 to 12.

The theme for this year’s Gala immersed the audience in a global journey through diverse cultures. Performances featured a wide range of musical traditions, with selections from Austria, Cuba, Latvia, Italy, Scotland, Africa, Norway, America, Russia, France and Australia. Each piece reflected the unique characteristics and historical significance of its origin, celebrating the universal language of music that transcends borders.

The evening was filled with performances that made it impossible to pick a standout. Folk Song Jumalo set a magical tone, showcasing the skill of IGS Voices led by the talented Director of Music Darren Kuilenburg, while West Side Story pieces brought a touch of romantic nostalgia. Havana by the IGS Orchestra, Quintillian by the Kelly Street band, the Primary School Guitars’ take on Eye of the Tiger and Gloria Estefan’s The Rhythm is Gonna Get You wowed the audience! And so much more throughout the evening… The whole night felt like a tremendous gift in celebration of the School’s 40th anniversary.

Ending on a high, the 40 Years Combined Ensemble Featuring students, staff, parents, and carers, delivered a rousing rendition of Baba Yetu!

Thanks to Director of Music Darren Kuilenburg, Head of Music Performance Mr Nathanael Primrose-Heaney, and the Music Department for another exceptional musical journey.
