Amelia Whitaker wins Sugerman-McLean Award

Milly made an outstanding return to sport following a 14 month break due to injury.

Congratulations to Year 11 student Amelia (Milly) Whitaker! Over the Term break, Milly was selected to join the NSWCIS 1 Open Girls Ruby 7s Team to play in the NSW All Schools Girls Rugby 7’s. The team played at Eric Tweedale Stadium 22-23 June 2023, where they placed third overall. Milly was then selected in the NSW 2 Schoolgirl Rugby 7s Team to compete in the Australian Schoolgirl Rugby 7s Championship from 2-5 July 2023 in Parramatta. The team finished 3rd.

This was an incredible return to sport for Milly, who was out for over a year to recover from knee reconstruction. Her perseverance and tenacity were equally recognised by her teammates as Milly was awarded The Sugerman-McClean Award for the NSW 2 Team. This prestigious award is given to the best player in each team at the Championship, as voted on by the players themselves.

Outside of school, Milly has also been selected in the Sydney Junior Rugby Union Girls Open XVs Representative Team as starting fullback.

We are so proud of Milly for all she has done to reach her goals and achieve distinguished success in sport!
