Reconciliation Through Art

We’re thrilled to announce that five IGS Year 6 students are finalists in the 2024 Schools Reconciliation Challenge, Learning from Legacy: Healing Our Country.

The Schools Reconciliation Challenge is an annual writing and art initiative that engages young people across NSW and the ACT in exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. The program supports educators in addressing focus areas 1.4 and 2.4 of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and aligns with the objectives of the K-6 and 7-10 syllabus. It also meets NSW Curriculum outcomes for English, Visual Arts, and History for Stages 2 and 3, as outlined by NESA.

Each year, students are invited to create artworks and stories inspired by a specific theme, encouraging them to reflect on the meaning of reconciliation and its role in Australian society.

With over 500 entries, we applaud every student who participated for their creativity and commitment to reconciliation. Congratulations to the selected IGS students below and their dedicated teachers Peter Adam and Michelle Sullivan for guiding them through this challenge.
