CIS Cup Kicks Off

The IGS Open Boys Football team claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Arden Anglican School at Moore Park Synthetic Field in the latest round of the CIS Cup. The win was built on solid teamwork, skill and an unyielding defence that kept their opponents at bay throughout the match.

Lachlan, Henry and Kaya were standouts in the backfield. They were instrumental in ensuring the ball stayed in Arden’s half, using quick thinking and strong tackling to shut down any attempts from the opposition to break forward. William, in goal, was a brick wall, making crucial saves to keep Arden scoreless and protecting IGS’s slim advantage. His consistent performance between the posts was key to the team’s success.

On the wings, Micaiah, Dylan and Bede worked tirelessly, pushing the ball forward and creating numerous opportunities. Their precise crosses into shooting range were a constant threat, keeping Arden’s defence under pressure. In the midfield, Jude, Lenny, and Kallum were the engines driving the team. They controlled the pace of the game, moving the ball effectively and exposing gaps in Arden’s central defence. Their passing and movement opened up space for attacking opportunities, giving IGS the upper hand throughout the match.

The game’s turning point came when Marcel delivered a perfectly timed assist to Tyrone, who was fouled inside the box, setting up a penalty opportunity. Tyrone stepped up confidently, taking the penalty after the keeper had blocked it, tapping the rebound into the back of the net to seal the victory.

IGS closed out the game with strong composure, continuing to demonstrate their tactical understanding and discipline.

Walid Baghdadi, the steady presence of PDHPE and Outdoor Education, and Boris Dragas, the man who knows how to motivate a team when it matters most, were right there, guiding the boys through the grind. Their coaching and mentorship were the not-so-silent force behind the win.

As the team progresses through the competition, it’s exciting to see their growth and the potential for even greater success. On to the next round!
