2018 and 2019 — IGS Reunion
Mostly, the 70 young people who attended this reunion on Saturday, 9 November had just finished uni and/or exotic world travels. They had been studying in Newcastle, Canberra, Melbourne and, of course, Sydney. Many were working in either their first permanent jobs or in jobs to raise money for a travelling adventure. Many travel stories and exciting plans aplenty as great fun was had by all at the reunion. There was also an abundance of really nice people!
Around 45 attended the School tour- they loved the Renaissance Centre, the second level deck, the Bibliothèque and the new Drama space. After the tour, we adjourned to the Glebe Hotel for drinks and food. Old friends caught up, told stories, compared notes and tattoos and wondered what the future held. Discussions were positive and reassuringly lacking in cynicism and world-weariness. Happily, the feeling of optimism was very strong and, again,I left feeling our world would be in good hands.
Class of 2004 — Twenty-Year IGS Reunion
They came from Darwin. They came from Bowral. They came from Melbourne. They came from Zetland. They came from all places in between. There were lawyers, teachers, nurses, businessmen, doctors, jingle writers, university lecturers as well as a couple of people doing jobs I could not quite get my old head around! It was hard to believe that these guys were nearing 38 years of age after being gone from IGS for 20 years. Two of IGS’s all-time greats Marina and Carmel are expecting babies in about a month on the same day. Quite a few wanted to talk about how to get their own children into IGS, which was lovely to hear.
On 16 November, this quality bunch of people talked about their shared pasts and the possibilities looming in the future. Many are still very much in touch with their old schoolmates, with quite a few just having returned from Daniel Samuel’s wedding in the USA and others having regular catch-ups.
From a class of about 65, we had 20 who made the effort to come along. Thanks, guys. It was great to see you and hear your stories!
