Year 3 students participated in a dynamic cross-disciplinary learning experience, intertwining the Arts, HSIE and PDHPE in an exploration of First Nations culture.
Students engaged with Winthali (Fire), a powerful Dreaming story published by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. This rich narrative served as a catalyst for creative expression, inspiring students to design a ‘soundspace’ that embodied the four natural elements—Fire, Earth, Wind and Water. These elements not only shaped their artistic responses but also reflected the IGS House system: Kuyal, Bamal, Gura and Baado.
Supported by Composer in Residence Harry Straulig and the Primary Music Team, students engaged with storytelling, sound and collaborative expression. Through this immersive experience, they strengthened their understanding of Country.
This initiative highlights embedding First Nations perspectives across learning areas, fostering creativity, reflection and respect for Indigenous knowledge.
