This week, students from the IGS DJ Club and Primary Dance Music Band were treated to an electrifying showcase by Australia’s number one female Turntablist, DJ D (Diana Matesic).
Recognised worldwide for her mastery of turntablism, DJ D has been a pioneering force in the industry since the late 1980s. With a career spanning decades, she has performed alongside some of the biggest names in hip-hop and continues to push the boundaries of DJ culture.
During her visit to IGS, DJ D took to the decks, demonstrating her incredible turntable skills while engaging students in an interactive session. Students had the opportunity to witness firsthand the art of scratching, mixing and beat juggling, as DJ D shared insights from her experience competing in prestigious DMC championships and hosting international artists.
“Grateful to be invited to showcase the artform of turntablism to IGS students, it’s a wonderful thing to be able to share the craft with the next generation. I hope the students are inspired to explore the wonderful medium of vinyl and turntablism, and are now equipped with knowledge and skills to allow them to create their own compositions, and possibly even pioneer new contributions to this evolving artform,” shares DJ D.
An inspiration to aspiring DJs, she highlighted the importance of passion, practice and perseverance in the world of music. The session left students feeling energised and eager to explore the limitless possibilities of turntablism.
Thank you, DJ D, for sharing your expertise and inspiring the next generation of DJs at IGS, and thank you Stuart Ridley DJ Club facilitator for making this event possible.
