While Ajay Kantouros loved studying Spanish from his first Spanish lesson in Year 7 at IGS, his passion for the subject ignited when he went to Spain on exchange with the School in Year 9.
The result? A coveted 2024 HSC First in State achievement in Spanish Extension.
“Ms Fernandez has been an amazing teacher, providing great experiences,” Ajay said.
Ajay, who began at IGS in Preschool where he began learning Italian at IGS, became “diligent” in his Spanish studies, supplementing his school work online with Education Perfect practice.
The exchange experience helped him to make an important transition, from translating, to thinking in Spanish.
“It helped me,” he said.
Ajay took part in a wide range of studies and activities at IGS. In Design and Technology, he designed a gyroscopic cup to help people with Parkinson’s Disease drink without spilling, a self-watering potplant, and climate awareness furniture.
He represented IGS in Cross Country at State level one year, played volleyball, learnt coding, did woodworking and, outside the School, played basketball.
He has already received an early offer to study Mechatronic Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at UTS.
