This week, IGS Archives brought a unique experience to the classroom, treating Year 10.4 Geography students to a special guest presentation. As part of the Urban Places unit, students have been learning about urban processes and change. School Archivist Phoebe Chin brought history to life with a fascinating talk on the rich history of Ultimo and IGS’s place as a moment in time. Arjuna Stoevelaar reports, “Ms Chin provided the class with a unique glimpse into Ultimo’s past, showcasing a variety of historical images of both the School and the surrounding community. Students learned about the area’s evolution from its industrial roots to the vibrant, diverse community it is today.
“The presentation not only helped deepen the students’ understanding of local history but also offered them an opportunity to reflect on how Geography influences the development of cities and communities over time. We are grateful to Ms Chin for sharing her wealth of knowledge and look forward to more engaging sessions like this in the future.”
IGS Archives wishes to thank Arjuna Stoevelaar and Carmelo Fedele for this valuable opportunity to share snippets of the School’s heritage with its students.
Ask an Archivist continues this week. Questions can be submitted to archives@igssyd.nsw.edu.au or via the Google Form. A link will also be available to record your questions for the Kaleidoscope Kids episode in October.
