Happy Birthday Reg St Leon

This week we celebrate the life and legacy of Reginald St Leon, born on March 27, 1928 in Canley Vale, NSW. The descendant of a circus family, Reginald’s early life was anything but ordinary. This unique upbringing perhaps foreshadowed his future as a nonconformist and visionary.

Reg’s most remarkable achievement was founding a school with a revolutionary vision: immersive language learning that fostered unity through diversity. This school became a beacon of innovation, teaching young children through languages. Reg’s dedication to this cause was steadfast. He even slept on campus for a time when the school was in its first years in Surry Hills. In the final years of his life, the School put together a submission to ensure that Reg St Leon received his richly deserved OAM in recognition of his contribution to language education.

The impact of his vision is evident in our vibrant Alums, who pave their own paths. Reg’s commitment to education and innovation was further demonstrated when he challenged the NSW Department of Education for the International Grammar School’s right to recognition.

We honour Reg St Leon, not just for his contributions to education but also for his indomitable spirit and the lasting impact he has had on generations of young minds. His legacy continues to inspire us to strive for excellence.
