2024 Head Boy Karam Singh Hartmann was “incredibly surprised and happy” with his HSC results, including gaining first place and 100 per cent in German Beginners.
Karam thanks his “really incredible teacher” Ms Britta Galfetti-Neve for helping him achieve his top result.
He was also very pleased with his Economics result of 94 out of 100, thanking Mr White, whose support helped him translate challenge into triumph.
Karam said that although he was unable to settle into a study routine, he discovered that changing his environment was helpful. He regularly studied at the State Library, finding he could concentrate much better away from the excitement and noise of family life.
Although Karam faced a busy year as Head Boy, he thanks IGS teachers for ensuring his responsibilities never overshadowed his studies.
“I was balancing many things at the same time, but there’s truth in the cliché that ‘work expands to fill the available time’.”
Karam’s hard-won results have opened more doors to him than he expected. One possibility is to study for a Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics, and Finance, at Australian National University in Canberra.
His advice for others?
“Hard work pays off,” he said.
“Never sell yourself short. If there’s something you want to do, as long as you put in the effort, you can do it.”
