This year, the newly introduced DJ club at IGS has quickly become a favorite among students. IGS offers a Junior Electronic Music Band and DJ Club for students in Years 1 to 3 and a senior club for students in Years 4 to 6.
In DJ lessons, students have learned how to use different technologies; mastering the art of mixing music for live audiences and crafting impressive sets. They have explored the history of dance music and the evolution of different genres.
In the band, our students have learned how to play four kinds of synthesizers and how to change sounds with synth controls. They’ve gained a profound understanding of diverse dance music styles and structures, creating captivating riffs, melodies, and basslines across different genres. Performing as a synchronized group, they’ve brought dance music to life, synchronizing with the beats of drum machines, all while diving into the intricacies of dance music production and recording.
This Monday was a true highlight for our IGS Junior DJ Club members as they were spoiled with special guest, DJ D, Australia’s premiere female turntablist. Her multiple awards for turntabling, scratching, and DJing speak volumes, and she generously led a Q&A session, offering invaluable insights into the world of a professional DJ.
Meanwhile, our Senior band were able to show off their skills by performing the dance music anthem We Come 1 by Faithless at the end of Term 3 Primary Assembly. The song is a big tune about unity!
