Inaugural Composition Competition showcases talent

On Monday 6 November, the Music Department hosted the inaugural IGS Composition Competition, an event that welcomed emerging composers from both the Primary School and High School.

The evening commenced with an immersive experience, allowing students, staff, and parents to engage with the entries, by listening to the audio submissions available in booths scattered throughout the room.

Our guest adjudicator, Holly Harrison, was highly impressed with all the entries and remarked on the wide spectrum of creative talent on display, representing students from both the Primary School and High School. Holly is a very successful Australian Composer and has held composition residencies at leading independent schools. She specifically praised the students’ abilities to encompass a diverse range of compositional styles and their growing expertise in both melodic and harmonic interplay, whether in acoustic or electronic instrumental groupings.

Congratulations to all who participated and to the following place-getters.
