Year 7 students put their problem-solving skills to the test in the Inquisitive Minds incursion, a hands-on maths challenge designed to make learning engaging and collaborative.
Working in pairs, students tackled a variety of problems under timed conditions, using manipulatives to approach mathematical concepts in new ways. “A whole new take on maths—completely different to every other maths lesson,” Akshay said.
Beyond problem-solving, students valued teamwork and a sense of achievement. “I get to work with new people and struggle and achieve stuff together,” Georgie C said. Henry G added, “Learning maths in a fun way.”
Student helpers were there to lend a helping hand, helping to guide and mark their younger peers’ work. The energy in the room was evident, with students eager to return after lunch and recess to take on new challenges. As one student put it, “You get to do it with a partner—Maths is fun to do with a friend.”
