It’s Been Electrifying

Message from the Principal

As we approach the final week of Term 2, I am filled with immense pride and admiration for our students and their remarkable achievements. This term, marking our anniversary year, has been animated with deeper learning, creativity and a multitude of accomplishments.

Our term began with the solemnity of ANZAC Day, bringing us together to honour the fallen and to reflect on the need for peace in our world. Since then our campus has been a whirlwind of activity: an athletics carnival despite the rain, triumphant cross-country events, star performances in TheatreSports, engaging culinary classes at the Fish Markets, the unforgettable Year 6 trip to Canberra, and a glittering primary disco, among so much more! Highlights include Wiradjuri artist Aunty Bianca Caldwell guiding Year 3 students through inspiring art workshops, an immersive day for the Koori Club and their families in Kangaroo Valley, and our Year 12 students’ outstanding presentations at the Aboriginal Studies Showcase. Thank you to Jade Carr Head of Indigenous Education and the students for their dedication and transformative efforts.

The inaugural IGS Literary Festival and the sold-out production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by our Years 9 to 12 Drama students have been standout successes. I extend heartfelt thanks to Patrice Marchbank and Rita Morabito for their energising creative leadership. Our HSC students have been hard at work mastering content, making inroads with their major projects and becoming test ready as we approach the Trial examination period.

In a spectacular celebration of our 40th anniversary, the entire school gathered at Wentworth Park for a breathtaking drone photo, capturing ‘love from above’ in a dramatic visualisation of our School’s values. The last time this happened was when we turned 20! The Primary School assembly concluded the term with a dazzling crescendo of musical performances – well done to all involved!

We were honoured by the presence of world-renowned climate expert Professor Katrin Meissner who astounded guests at the second lecture of our new Ultimo Series. Ad

ditionally, our teacher Megan Sampson shone as the Assistant Director in Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Stolen. The incorporation of our PTF into the new IGS Parents’ and Carers’ Association – the IGS P&C – is a significant milestone for our School. I extend my gratitude to President Hayley Dean and all involved for their tenacity, hard work and generosity.

In the weeks leading up to our anniversary concert Vive la Révolution!, the atmospher

e throughout the whole school has been electrifying. Students, staff, parents, carers and a team of former students have poured their hearts into preparing a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It is going to be simply extraordinary. Behind the scenes we’ve been hearing exclamations of “Epic!” and “Monumental!” as preparations progress. The guidance and dedication of our world-class artistic and creative team of performing arts specialists has been nothing short of inspiring.

We have scheduled an early start at 5pm for the performance to ensure that this magical, one-and-a-half-hour production concludes at a convenient time.

If you haven’t secured your tickets yet, I urge you to do so without delay – this is an event you won’t want to miss!

Thank you for all of your support and I wish you and your children a wonderful term break over the coming weeks.
