Japanese Children’s Day

The 4 May is ‘Kodomo no hi’ – Children’s Day – in Japan. Traditionally, you would find giant koinobori (carp-shaped windsock) flying in the garden and kabuto (samurai helmet) and yoroi (samurai armor) displayed at home when boys were present in the household.

Acknowledging this special day, children in Kindergarten and Year 1 Japanese class learned how Kodomo no hi is celebrated in Japan. Year 1 Japanese children made kabuto using newspaper, while Kindergarten students made a koinobori. They were excited to go to Early Learning to view the real koinobori and were fascinated by its size. They called out  大きい!(It’s big!)
