Japanese Exchange Students Embrace IGS Life

Three Japanese exchange students from our sister school, Osaka International High School, have arrived in Sydney this week. Kanna Y, Saya T and Yui Y landed on Saturday 22 February and were greeted by beautiful weather. Their exciting start to Sydney life included a BBQ picnic with their host families in Pyrmont Park.

On Monday, after getting familiar with IGS, they joined Year 9 and Year 12 Japanese classes, offering our students a wonderful opportunity to practise their Japanese with native speakers. On Tuesday, they participated in our annual swimming carnival in Ryde, where they embraced the house spirit by cheering and swimming for their buddies’ houses.

Since then, they’ve been actively involved in lessons with their buddies and have visited all the senior Japanese classes, where they enjoyed lively conversations with IGS students. Today, they went on their first excursion, visiting Chinatown and Paddy’s Market. Many more exciting activities are lined up for the weeks ahead, including making Pavlova (an iconic Australian dessert) and visiting Sydney University, Taronga Zoo, St Mary’s Cathedral, Hyde Park and Manly Beach.

They will continue participating in the remaining junior Japanese classes, studying subjects not typically offered in Japan and enjoying their school life at IGS. We’re thrilled to have them here and look forward to more unforgettable experiences during their three-week visit, which will end on 16 March.

Thank you to Hiroko Yamaguchi High School Japanese Teacher for taking care of their timetables and organising such a great experience for our IGS students and their new friends.
