On Wednesday, 18 September, IGS had the privilege of hosting Judge Shead as part of a special afternoon tea organised by the SRC to celebrate our Year 12 students as they near the completion of their school days. The event was an inspiring occasion, giving students the chance to reflect on their journey and look ahead to the future, with real words of wisdom from Judge Shead herself.
The afternoon began with a warm ‘mix and greet’ in the Renaissance Centre, where students enjoyed light refreshments and the opportunity to chat with each other and informally engage with Judge Shead.
The atmosphere was lively, SRC Leader Sabrina Turner opened the formal part of the event, warmly welcoming Judge Shead. During her speech, Judge Shead shared personal anecdotes from her childhood, reflecting on the challenges she faced, her initial hesitation towards pursuing higher education, and the resilience it took to navigate her path to success. Her story, culminating in her appointment as a District Court Judge of NSW in 2019, was a powerful reminder that success is often a winding road, and perseverance can lead to remarkable outcomes.
The students were engaged and thoughtful as Judge Shead spoke, and the following Q&A session allowed them to ask questions and seek further advice. Her direct openness made a lasting impression, with many students taking the opportunity to speak with her further during the informal conclusion of the event.
Heartfelt thanks to the SRC for their hard work in organising the event, which provided a meaningful and uplifting way for Year 12 students to come together in their final weeks at IGS.
Thank you to all involved.
