Koori Club Welcomes Kindys

On Thursday, 27th March, we hosted a special barbeque for Koori Kids at School, as part of the Koori Club—a group made up of First Nations students. The Koori Club is an important initiative at our School, providing a supportive and inclusive space for Indigenous students to come together, celebrate their culture and connect with others.

The barbeque was a fantastic opportunity for our new Koori Kindy Kids to meet their Koori peers and build connections from the very start of their journey at the School. Sausages and onions cooked by Year 10 student Alex W, and cupcakes donated by the Canteen created a warm, welcoming atmosphere for everyone involved.

The term Koori is used by Aboriginal people in and from parts of New South Wales and Victoria. It is an identity term that reflects a rich cultural heritage and a deep connection to the land.

At IGS, events like these are more than just fun—they are part of a broader effort to help build a sense of belonging and community within the School. Through these gatherings, students are encouraged to feel like they are part of a larger family—and for many, they truly are.

This special event was organised by Megan Sampson, Acting Head of Indigenous Education, whose leadership ensures that the Koori Club continues to be a place where our First Nations students can thrive.
