We are thrilled to highlight the remarkable achievement of Magnus Gerholt, a talented student from Year 6, who recently competed for IGS at the NSW Alpine Interschools Competition and came in 46th. This event attracted around 70 young participants in the Sydney regional division alone, with similar numbers participating in other regions.
Magnus’ participation in the competition was nothing short of impressive. Notably, the margin between Magnus and the competitor ahead of him was a mere 0.2 seconds. The course, characterised by its rapid pace and icy conditions, favoured those with strong technique and skill.
“More importantly than anything, Magnus’ time was terrific and very competitive. His year-on-year improvement was outstanding and a testament to the effort he put in last year and the beginning of this season. It’s basically all the same students skiing each year, and he moved from the bottom third of the times to the top 20%.”, says Magnus’s father followed by “Magnus is in a weekend program with Perisher Winter Sports Club. Many kids he races against are in full time race programs, and some do Northern hemisphere training in our summer.”
Magnus Gerholt’s achievements reflect his individual growth and the strong support system he has in place, including his family and our school community. We are immensely proud to have Magnus representing IGS and to witness his continuous growth as a skilled Alpine competitor. We look forward to his future endeavors and are excited to see how his journey unfolds on the slopes.
