Sustainable Futures students from Years 7 to 12 attended the Ocean Youth Summit, an event that celebrates young people and the ocean as part of National Youth Week 2024.
The event showcased youth-led stories and solutions to inspire us to connect with our natural places and take positive action to protect them.
Our very own Sustainability Portfolio Leader, Madeleine Hayen, was featured on one of the panels to share her insights about young people as active citizens in the climate movement.
“It was very nerve-racking being on a panel with such accomplished young people, but I was thrilled to be able to share my experiences as a former member of School Strike 4 Climate and a long-time member of our School Sustainable Futures Group. We were posed a variety of questions about how young people can be involved in the anti-climate change and better oceans movement and the steps they can take to develop climate and ocean awareness at their schools.
“I am very grateful that I was provided with the opportunity to share IGS’ story especially surrounding our journey with Climate Fresk, a climate-focused workshop, as it was something we spent large amounts of time on over the past year and are very proud of what we have accomplished in relation to it. It was an amazing opportunity being able to speak alongside some highly successful young people who are shaping their industries and paving the pathway towards a more climate-conscious future,” shared Madeleine.
