“English teacher Tim Lester arranged the opportunity for Ms Eckermann to visit the two Year 12 English Standard classes via Zoom in the convivial surroundings of the new Bibliothèque Amphitheatre space to talk about her poetry collection, Inside My Mother,” said Head of English and Philosophy Thom Marchbank.
“Ms Eckermann spoke to students about her writing, and students had a chance to ask her questions, expanding their understanding of her writing process and context.”
Mr Lester asked Eckermann whether she would agree with William Wordsworth’s definition of poetry as “emotion recollected in tranquility”, and whether composing the suite had offered her release or respite. Ms Eckermann agreed that it had, and that crafting her poems had been a “relief”.
