Teachers and students were amazed this week to see the new Renaissance Centre – the outstanding new IGS teaching and learning space designed by architects BVN on the corner of Mountain and Smail streets.
The Renaissance Centre is a long awaited addition to our campus and will enhance our students’ learning. This inspiring space boasts a stunning university-style academic lecture theatre, seminar rooms and break out teaching spaces for collaboration. Additionally, the Manuela Bachmann Dance Studio provides a space that will facilitate the expansion of Dance at IGS and expand our offerings in the Performing Arts.
English teacher Tim Lester was the first to utilise the space with his Year 10 English class, managing to secure a spot just before the HSC commenced and part of the space began use for staff administering the HSC exams. Year 10 students engaged in a dramatic reading of their set text for Term 4, Wesley Enoch and Deborah Mailman’s moving play, Seven Stages of Grieving.
We are planning an official opening of the Renaissance Centre in early 2024 at which we will thank our donors and celebrate the space. As a special guest of honour IGS foundational staff member, superb ballet instructor and long serving Director of After Care, Manuela Bachmann, will attend to cut the red ribbon. Stay tuned for more details.
