As you may have read online, I have resigned as P&C President aka IGS Head Cheerleader. A role I’ve absolutely adored holding. Having begun my 4th year, I’ve decided it’s time to move on. I’d like to thank the fab group of people who have volunteered their time to create some of my fav highlights.
Together, we:
- Shut down the street to host our very own Lunar New Year festival with dragons, food and fun
- Began the tradition of including Early Learning into our annual disco. My personal favourite theme was the St Patrick day disco, which featured a giant balloon rainbow
- Hosted the super fun Back to School trivia night
- Donned the pink caps and won a trophy for IGS, as the highest School fundraising team at the Mother’s Day Classic (f-k cancer!)
- Countless International film festivals and private screenings
- Brought in the first Greek food stall at International day
- Organised for Girl Up students to meet Rosie Batty
- Curated the Lou’s Place (women’s refuge) volunteer cooking roster and clothes donations
- Held THE best Diwali celebration into a School gate to ever be celebrated on Kelly St. Remember that amazing drummer?!
- The introduction of a First Nations committee member
- Held Democracy sausage sizzle with a visit from Tanya Plibersek
- Support many IGS families in times of need
- Organised new flags for the School including the Torres Strait Islander flag
- Fundraised for a new School BBQ
- Campaigned the City of Sydney Council to install a free 15-min parking at pick up and drop off times in Mountain St Cres and the upgrade of the park space in the same zone
- PLUS a new pedestrian crossing coming soon to Bay Street
- Developed a new Parent & Carer space (coming soon) to Mountain Street
- Created the ultimate School fees raffle!!
- Were honoured to help host the wake for Jai Wright and his colour run that followed
- Helped out on countless fun School gate welcomes like Wear It Purple day
- Convinced the closing art stall in Newtown to donate supplies to Goodooga
- Hand delivered Kangaroo Valley open day picnics
- Countless Rue Kelly stalls in the car park basement, on the footpath and in the hall
- And hosted more Easter egg hunts and pizza in the park events than I can count
But the part I loved the most was of course the Jacarandas in the Spring Time.
When Frente penned the song Accidentally Kelly Street I’m almost positive they meant IGS – where friends and strangers become a Community.
I’ll be back in touch to introduce you to my replacement once it’s known.
Thank you
Hayley Dean
