The year 1989 was one of transition and hope. Reg St Leon had entrusted the future of IGS to the capable hands of Rita Fin. By this time, the School had a uniform, logo, and motto that reflected its spirit and identity. Yet Rita, a classically trained musician, felt there was still something missing—a School song that would resonate in the hearts of students and staff alike.

Galvanised, Rita reached out to Ross Edwards, a renowned Australian composer and proud IGS parent. She commissioned him to create a song that would capture IGS’s multicultural philosophy. Written in the six languages taught at IGS, the resulting melody was a dynamic, highly rhythmic chant that would be a joy to perform
Unity Diversity was born. Thirty-five years on, it is a mainstay of IGS’s repertoire.
