We are thrilled to share the incredible achievements of two of our outstanding students and talented figure skaters, the Ice Sapphires, Kiera Hobbs and Alina Green.
Kiera’s journey in the world of figure skating has been nothing short of remarkable, showcasing her athletic prowess and her leadership skills.
At the end of last year, Kiera embarked on Pre-Nationals training: a rigorous program encompassing strength and flexibility exercises, engaging presentations, and workshops focusing on psychological preparation. These essential components equipped Kiera with the skills and mindset needed to face the challenges ahead.
Kiera and her teammate Alina Green, another bright star from IGS, proudly represented New South Wales at the Australian Figure Skating Championships Nationals. As part of a synchronised skating team, they showcased their talent and dedication. Despite the closure of Canterbury Ice Rink in October 2022, where they used to train, Kiera and Alina remained resilient and committed.
Their notable achievement was clinching the bronze medal at the Nationals, a clear demonstration of their exceptional skills and teamwork. This victory becomes even more significant given the challenges they encountered without a dedicated training facility. Adding to their success, Kiera and Alina soared to new heights at the NSW Figure Skating Championships in October, clinching the gold medal. This achievement not only reflects their individual brilliance but also highlights the strength of their synchronised skating team.
As leaders on the ice, Kiera and Alina served as the team’s captains, graciously accepting the medals on behalf of the entire team: a fitting recognition of the collective effort that led to their success.
At IGS, we seek to nurture well-rounded individuals who excel not only academically but also in their chosen pursuits.
Please join us in celebrating Kiera and Alina’s brilliant accomplishments.
