Two years in the making, the School’s Solar Project will soon come to life, with installation scheduled for the upcoming School holidays.
The Solar Project will add a durable shade structure with solar panels, converting sunlight into electricity through photovoltaic cells. Aligned with our strategic goals, this project promotes sustainability, enhances campus facilities, and supports student and staff wellness. Covering the rooftop walkway of the Reg St Leon building, the 39kW solar PV system will generate savings, offsetting 7.78% of annual energy costs and paying for itself in 7.5 years. Awarded to Smart Commercial Solar after a competitive tender, IGS will also benefit from renewable energy certificates available as government subsidies until 2030.
The School’s Solar Project will not only reduce our environmental footprint but also set an example for our students, inspiring them to envision and embrace a sustainable future.
This milestone, a major step toward renewable energy and a sustainable future at IGS, is thanks to our incredible Major Donors and generous School community.
