Spreading Holiday Cheer

On 8 November, the IGS Senior Vocal Ensemble and High School Student Leaders made a special trip to Chris O’Brien Lifehouse as part of the IGS Connect Program. A not-for-profit hospital in Camperdown, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse provides comprehensive multidisciplinary and holistic cancer care for both public and private patients. Our students and staff visited the Centre to provide some cheer, entertainment and Christmas Spirit, whilst also considering how we can continue to regularly connect with the Lifehouse in 2025.

Patients were treated to a number of vocal performances from our Choir, a moving experience for all. In addition, our High School Student Leaders spread the holiday spirit during their visit to the hospital’s YouCan Centre. This visit held special significance, as many YouCan Centre patients are youths within a similar age bracket to our School Leaders.. As a thoughtful gesture, the students donated a number of indoor plants to the hospital, contributing a positive impact to the inpatient environment. They also showcased their creative talents, donating decorated handmade  Christmas baubles to brighten patient’s days.

Meanwhile, Year 9 students enjoyed taking part in the Kids Giving Back program, a valuable experience that encourages community service during the holiday season.

The IGS Connect Program gives students opportunities to volunteer with not-for-profit organisations, encouraging them to learn from the experiences of others and give back to the community.
