2024 Head Girl and All-Round Achiever Antigone Marchbank was “very, very excited” to discover she’d received top band results in all her courses.
“I somehow pulled through in Ancient History, due to some very good teaching,” she said.
Antigone, who is passionate about Drama and Shakespeare was thrilled that her Drama Group Project, Waiting for Ophelia, was nominated and has been shortlisted for performance at OnSTAGE.
“It’s a comedic absurdist piece playing on Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett. Dressed as nuns, we wait for Ophelia and other Shakespearean women, and they will never arrive because they are all dead,” she said.
She was also delighted her performance of monologue Le Nez, adapted by Damien Ryan from Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, was nominated for OnSTAGE.
“I adored all my English subjects,” said Antigone, who joined IGS in Kindergarten.
“IGS is a radically accepting, creative place, and I loved it.”
Antigone was particularly pleased to take part in a play and to make it to the Senior Theatresports Competition finals, all while serving as Head Girl and tackling her HSC.
“I appreciate the support.”
Her favourite memory is the atmosphere in the Year 12 study space just before the first English paper.
“We all wanted to do well,” she said. “There were people studying, someone was cooking something, people were talking to each other. It was nice to see my year group all together, making light of a serious situation.”
Antigone hopes to study Arts at the University of Sydney, majoring in English literature and Theatre Studies. She hopes to join the Sydney University Dramatic Society, and can’t wait to study Shakespeare in her third year, as soon as she is eligible.
Best of luck, Antigone! We wish her well, along with the whole of the IGS Class of 2024.
