The Inquisitive Minds incursion for Year 7 students provided an immersive and hands-on problem-solving experience. Working in pairs, students used manipulatives to tackle a diverse array of original problems under timed conditions. The challenges allowed for a range of abilities, as demonstrated by Leo Cunanan’s observation: “I liked how there was a wide range of difficulty levels in the second competition, so everyone had a level.”
Students rushed back from lunch and recess to participate in their sessions, underscoring the workshop’s success in sparking interest and challenging negative perceptions of Mathematics. After the incursion, Agnes Stafford reflected: “It was surprisingly fun. I thought it was going to be a bunch of pieces of paper with equations on them, but I actually really enjoyed it.”
