Kaidyn Wright – IGS YEAR 11 2020
I am a proud Dunghutti man who embarked on a remarkable journey from the halls of IGS, where I spent my years from Preschool to Year 11, to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a professional football player. With determination, I ventured to Germany, leaving behind my family and friends to chase this passion. Though the decision to part ways was undoubtedly difficult, it has unfolded into an incredible experience.
For the past 19 months, I have called Cologne (Köln) my home, immersing myself in the vibrant football culture of Germany. Upon arrival, I swiftly integrated into the football scene, joining DV Deutz 05 U19s (2022) to sharpen my skills and start the path towards achieving my goals. Currently, I proudly represent SpVg Frechen 20 in the competitive German 4th division, embracing every moment on the pitch as an opportunity for growth and a step towards playing in Division 1. I have a few options for next season, perhaps playing in Sweden, Finland, or Iceland.
My journey is a testament to the power of determination and the pursuit of one’s dreams. As I continue to navigate the world of professional football, I remain rooted in my heritage as a Dunghutti man, carrying the spirit of resilience and cultural pride with me every step of the way.
Kim Berney – Class of 2016
Soon after graduating in 2016, a group of us headed to Europe and Asia. It was a formative, humbling and gratifying year—too much fun! I’d recommend everyone trek the Himalayas.
Between 2018 and 2022, I completed a Bachelor of Commerce. The studies weren’t so enjoyable, and ‘uni life’ didn’t exactly meet my expectations. This was a difficult pill to swallow. Perhaps I should’ve gone to ANU or somewhere overseas. However, I loved my 7-month exchange to Montreal, which was cut short by Covid!
From 2022 until now, I’ve helped scale a SaaS consultancy and have recently relocated to Lisbon with Lloyd, a best mate from IGS!
The future? That’s a great question. Uncertain.
I’m learning Portuguese as a starter. Joining another company and/or getting back to studies, for example, psychotherapy as the main course. Helping grow Cabal, Lloyd’s bar, for dessert.
IGS continues to hold an important place in my heart. I’m keen for the Lisbon reunion in May.
Klara Decker-Stewart – Class of 2019
From ice skating in Madrid to witnessing Mr Galea walk on icy roads in Crocs and socks during a German winter, IGS certainly set me up for a life of travel and adventure. Sliding down snow and ice covered hills in a wok and trekking through thigh-deep mud on the Overland Track during the Year 10 Writing the Island program are some of my fondest memories at IGS. I have carried this sense of adventure with me and have continued hiking and traveling the world during my university years.
Currently, I am studying a Bachelor of Music Performance and Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Sydney / Conservatorium of Music. I am now the concertmaster of the Sydney Youth Orchestra, with whom I have traveled around regional NSW and the UK. I was part of the Sydney Opera House’s very first performance in the Barkandji language alongside Leroy Johnson. It’s great being able to practice my German with our guest conductor Stanley Dodds from the Berlin Philharmonic! I have performed with the Australian Youth Orchestra and regularly play chamber works around Sydney, including at Parliament House, and have even played electric violin with bands.
