Year 4 students receive finished Rangoli

Oohs and aahs filled 4 Blue as students got the first look at their completed works from International Day.

On Wednesday, Mrs Samantha Shah visited Year 4 classrooms to deliver finished Rangoli that were designed by students on International Day. Originally from India, Rangoli is a type of art traditionally produced using coloured sand, rice or flower petals near the entrances of homes to welcome visitors during festivals, Mrs Shah explained.

The entire exercise was centred around mindfulness and connectedness. Students were each given a single tile to decorate, which would come together to form a larger work. Mrs Shah also took the students through meditation exercises in which they put their hands together and practiced breathing slowly in and out.

“I want you to take a moment, look at the artwork that you’ve done, and think to yourself: I am kind. I am strong. I am brave,” Ms Shah said.
