This term, Year 4 students ventured into the world of architecture and sustainability, culminating in a showcase of their Green Dream Homes. The project began with an exploration of architecture, where students studied how past and present designs balance purpose, structure and creativity. Through this STEAM-focused initiative, they delved into sustainability, discovering what it takes to build a home with a carbon-neutral footprint, including examining how materials like recycled timber and solar panels impact energy efficiency.
A special highlight of the term was a visit from Anthony Burke, host of Grand Designs, who shared his expertise on sustainable housing. His innovative ideas and practical advice provided valuable insights, helping students shape their designs. You can read more about Anthony’s visit here.
Armed with this knowledge, students designed, sketched and built their own sustainable homes. At the showcase, parents were invited to admire the students’ creations, with some students even attempting to auction off their homes. The final projects were a testament to the students’ hard work, creativity and commitment to a greener future.
