Traditions in Motion

By Arjuna Stoevelaar

Our Year 8 students recently had the incredible opportunity to visit The Retreat in Kangaroo Valley for an immersive History Experience. The highlight of the trip was the enriching session with Gadhungal Marring, who conducted a traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony.

This was followed by an engaging artefact workshop, where students learned about the rich cultural heritage and history of the local Indigenous community, and a dance class where students learned the Lyrebird dance. It was a memorable day filled with learning, respect, and appreciation for the deep-rooted traditions of the land.

A big thanks to Luke and Tyrell from Gadhungal Marring for an unforgettable experience.

As well as the teachers who supervised and danced Mr Waugh, Ms Fajou, Ms Pool, Mr Toomey-Westcott, Mr Fedele, Ms Carr and Ms Hussey.
