Young Jakob Up With The Stars

Not many 11-year-olds can say they’ve completed Mathematics Advanced to HSC level with a result of 86. Jakob Lal is exceptional, yet down to earth.

“I started at IGS in Year 3 because the local school didn’t really cater for what I needed,” he said.

“I was already doing algebra. At IGS, they had the high school curriculum and it was nice to learn German.”

The fact this year’s HSC result is unlikely to count in his final mark, due to NESA requirements, helped Jakob to relax about taking the exam.

“I had to sit for so long,” he said, adding he would have liked a higher result. “My concentration wasn’t as good.”

Next year he is set to study more Mathematics and Physics with the aim of sitting more HSC examinations the following year.

“We had three quarters of a term already, to do some introductory stuff. Dr Kennett is a really good teacher. I’m excited.

“I like the environment at IGS, how it includes everyone.”

At this stage, ultimately, Jakob is interested in a career as an astrophysicist or aeronautical engineer.
